Thank you for alerting me to the current situation in South Korea with regards to Shadow Education Companies appropriating Multiple Intelligences Theory. Since its inception, MI Theory has been misused and misrepresented (visit the malPractices section of my website -- http://multipleintelligencesoasis.org/malpractices/ to learn more).

Although I was not aware Shadow Education Companies were making unsubstantiated claims about MI Theory, unfortunately I am not surprised.

I have never endorsed specific products, consequently parents and teachers should reject such claims. You are welcome to call attention to this policy.

Instead, I would like to take this opportunity to emphasize the importance of individualization and pluralization: the two chief educational concepts to emerge from my thirty years of study. The first, individuation (also termed personalization), suggests that since human beings have their own unique configuration of intelligences, we should take that into account when teaching, mentoring or nurturing. As much as possible we should teach individuals in ways that they can learn and we should assess them in a way that allows them to show what they have understood and to apply their knowledge and skills in unfamiliar contexts.

As for pluralization, that is a call for teaching consequential materials in several ways. Whether you are teaching the arts, the sciences, history, or math, you should decide which ideas are truly important and then you should present them in multiple ways.
